Understanding Work Mode and Review Mode

Ooona has two different modes to work in that are selected based on whether you’re transcribing or checking over your captions. These are Work Mode and Review Mode.

Work Mode is used for transcribing caption blocks. Work Mode shows the caption you are currently editing on the video player. When Ooona is in Work Mode, it will not change the caption you are working on in the Subtitle Editor even if you play a section of the media that doesn’t match the caption you are currently editing. Work Mode is useful when you are transcribing a file from scratch and when you are timing your caption blocks. The below imagine displays what Ooona looks like when Work Mode is selected.

Review Mode is used for reviewing your captions and making small adjustments to timing. When Ooona is in Review Mode, it will change the caption you are working on in the Subtitle Editor and beneath the video player based on any timing information it has. This means that the caption you are editing will follow the media when you play it, or your place in the media will change when you click into a different caption block. Review Mode is useful when you are checking over your captions and reviewing timing.

Video Follows Subtitle

The symbol with two arrows next to the Work/Review Mode button is Video Follows Subtitles.  Toggling this feature will change whether or not the video player displays the caption block you are currently editing in the Subtitle Editor.

In Work Mode, Video Follows Subtitles should be disabled.
In Review Mode, Video Follows Subtitles should be enabled.
