You can find out more information about the role and apply here: http://www.ai-media.tv/become-a-closed-captioner/
There are two stages to the test. You must pass both to become a captioner.
The first stage is a multiple choice test with questions on spelling, grammar, punctuation and captioning standards. You have 10 minutes to complete the test, and once you start, you can’t stop. Before submitting your test, you can review and edit your answers. However, once you submit you can’t redo the test. You only have one attempt to complete this test. Don’t press the back or refresh buttons in your browser or your test attempt may be lost.
If you fail this you will not proceed to next stage.
You will be alerted via email about whether you passed or failed Stage 1. Successful applicants from Stage 1 receive an email with a link to Stage 2 of the process. Stage 2 requires you to caption a video using our online captioning software. This is then marked based on spelling, grammar, punctuation and timing of the captions. This may take up to 5 days. Unsuccessful applicants are all notified by an automated email.
You will need a computer that runs Windows, and use Chrome as your web browser. The software you use to create the captions is used in the browser and you don’t need to download anything.
If you fail, you cannot repeat the test or reapply.
If you pass the second stage of the test, you will receive an email with a link to the captioner tutorial. The tutorial also includes our captioning style guide. You must complete the tutorial before logging in to the portal and claiming work.
